lyrics

DEJA VU
Music & Lyrics by Christy

I thought I'd heard it all before
But still I let you in again
It's like a knocking at the door
But when I answer there's only rain

No matter what you do
You'll only let me down again
No matter what you say
You'll only let me down again
My friend

You told me once, you told them more
You sleep with strangers with no remorse
You let me go then return again
You drink with strangers not with friends

No matter what you do
You'll only let me down again
No matter what you say
You'll only let me down again
My friend

from Shine & Rise, released November 3, 2009
Composed, arranged, produced & performed* by Christy.

Drums and bass recorded in a room in East London, April 2004. Additional overdubs added at MileHighStudio.

The original recording, made by the band Zen, was unusable due to the way it had been 'engineered' for a 'dense live room sound' as advocated by the studio owner. Several remixes didn't solve the many leakage problems, so it was shelved, which was a major disappointment to a band then being courted by Sony. Last year it was dug out, all stripped back, the best drums kept/sampled and then rebuilt. The bass, in two parts, was found to be good but everything else was then rerecorded into the production you hear here. Somewhere between this version and the demo cut at Alchemia in 2003 with John Hartley on the drums is probably where it would've been best, judge for yourself, I have just added the demo version (Oct 2013) - if only i could turn that hi-hat down on it...

*additional players:
Andre St. Clair Dyer - Drums
Hamid Halbaoul - Bass

Zen in 2004 were:
