By Occasion of a White Whale (1994)

about

I don't exactly remember writing this oddity. There is a brief echo in my mind of playing the riff over and over and the high F chord, whilst recording a scratch demo with Bryan who was the bands lead guitarist at that point. There is a short bit of video of Bryan & I at Borley that summer, strumming through this very song.
What is it all about? I think it is rather nursery rhyme and innocent, that is why i made no attempt to change the happy/sad good/bad etc of the second half of the song. Is it high end poetry, no, but it wasn't trying to be, it just spilled out nearly 20 years ago from a fertile imagination, which may well of had some stimulation of sorts.
I still like the idea of a wise whale showing up and telling us how we might move forward more peacefully and harmoniously as a species.
Enjoy! :-)

Recording: The toot toot sounds are real Calliope samples. The whale calls are Humpback Whale.
